BBQ and S'mores at the Pricketts

This coming Monday (July 19th), we will be meeting at Rachel & Keith's house as usual.  If we get our normal wonderful July weather, we'll be spending most of our time outside.  We plan to fire up the grill, so bring side dishes or anything you want to throw on the BBQ.  Keith & Rachel will provide BBQ chicken.

After watching the Love Talk DVD, we'll have s'mores on the fire pit in the backyard.  Bring a jacket...the coastal breezes can blow through Philomath pretty strong in the evenings.

The address is: 1233 SW West Hills Road, Philomath, OR

See you there!

Stay in the Loop!

In an effort to keep our mailing list up to date and to allow people to join/leave our mailing list as desired, we are going to use a Yahoo Group for all future group communications.   The group is located here:  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/corvallisyoungmarrieds/  Follow that link to sign up!

We will be keeping current contact information at that site also so it is the place to go to find someone's mailing address or phone number.  Please check out the Mailing Addresses document located under Files on the left, to add your contact information or update it if you've moved.

If we're missing anybody, feel free to invite them to the group.

So, as a recap:  please use this Yahoo Group mailing list from now on, anytime you want to contact Young Marrieds as a group.  Thank you!

What's So Amazing About Grace?

We are currently watching and discussing the DVD, 'What's So Amazing About Grace: A Ten Session Investigation of Grace', by Phillip Yancey.

Based on the book by the same title, this 10-week DVD explores the subject of grace, the freely given and unmerited favor and love of God.

Description from Zondervan Publishers: In this ten-session small group DVD, award-winning author Philip Yancey offers intimate glimpses of God’s life-changing grace. Using candid interviews with real people, he illustrates the power of God to forgive the most horrible deeds, love the unloving, and redeem the seemingly irredeemable.

Financial Peace

Over the next few months, our small group is watching the DVD series by Dave Ramsey and learning how to be good stewards of all that God gives. We're sharing how we have struggled and grown in the area of finances, and we're being challenged to be wise investors of "talents."

December 2008

Finally an update to the blog!
Our group has been growing so much over the last few months, so welcome to all the new couples!

In November we began a new study- a video series on the Song of Solomon, presented by Tommy Nelson. So far we've covered the first 2 sessions - attraction and dating. On the 8th of December we will be looking at the art of courtship, and even though we've passed this point in our relationships, it's still great to learn what God has to say about building a strong marriage even before you get to the vows.

On the 13th we will enjoy a progressive dinner - we still need hosts for the different courses!

We hope this Thanksgiving holiday was a blessing for you and your families.

Love and Respect Series

Our Home Fellowship is reading Love & Respect by Emerson Eggerichs and discussing the chapters on Monday evenings. Also, Calvary Corvallis is showing the DVDs that go along with this book - Wednesday nights at 6:15 for 7 weeks. Most couples in our group have been able to attend, and we look forward to seeing how this series can be used by God to bless our marriages.

4th of July!

4th of July at the Castles!
You’re welcome to arrive anytime after 12 noon. What to bring is highlighted below...

During the day we plan on:

Swimming/wading/floating in the river (bring swim gear/shoes for wading and a towel)

Playing yard games (please bring if you have them!)

Hiking/walking around the wilderness

In the evening we will have

BBQ- we’ll start the grill around 6pm.

Bring your own meat (or non-meat grilling substitute) AND a side dish or dessert to share.

We have some buns (hamburger/hotdog) and we’ll have lemonade/limeade and water available.

Drive-in style movie in our backyard (we don’t have a specific film choice, so please bring your dvds and we’ll take a vote! If no one brings any we might get stuck with one of my chick flicks…)

Bring-

Warm Clothes. Even if it’s 90 on Friday, the coast breeze kicks in around 8pm and it gets downright chilly.

Movie snacks

Chair, blanket and/or sleeping bag to cozy up under.

If you are interesting in spending the night, you are more than welcome! It makes the drive more worthwhile.

PLEASE RSVP to tell me you are planning on staying so we can prep mattresses and have enough for breakfast.

If you are spending the night, please bring:

Pillows/sleeping bags. We have enough mattresses for 5 couples, plus 3 couches, and a pretty comfy floor.

You are welcome to bring a tent and camp out here too, if you like.

Please don’t bring fireworks – we have very tall, drying grass all around our home. Sorry!

Call Melody for directions or if you have questions! 929-4870

Monday the 17th will be a movie night at YM at the Miller's. Even though it's an "off" week, we will be getting together to watch "The Pineapple Story." The movie will start at 7pm.

Hope to see you there!

Update

It's been a while since we've posted!

2008 is off to a great start in young marrieds. We were blessed to have so many couples at our Feb. 11 home fellowship. In the "off" weeks we have been building closer relationships with each other though hanging out and prayer.

It was also a blessing to have Andrew Enders come and share about marriage, ministry, and having 4 kids!

We're looking forward to nicer weather and having more outdoor adventures! If you're just checking us out, we invite you to join us. Kids are welcome!

The Enders Family
Andrew, Patrice, Isabel, Reese, Anaelle, and baby on the way!

Ultimately humbled

We held our ground for most of the 2-hr. game, final score (i think??) was YM 7, YA 15.

I think we knew we were in for trouble when they arrived with team shirts and a chant:
maher-shalal-hash-baz
which is, apparently, the longest word in the Bible, meaning "quick to the booty, swift to plunder." Indeed.

Though we were lacking some key YM folk, we appreciate the amazing catches by Opie, Ryan (who took one for the team) Grant and Ron.

Bring it on!

Tomorrow will be a home fellowship ultimate frisbee battle! It's the young marrieds vs the young adults in the ultimate showdown: 2 pm is the time, MLK Jr. Park is the place...

Maybe this could turn into a home fellowship championship series?

Pictures will follow in the coming days.

ps, Micah and Rhonda, Matt and Heather, we wish you were here!!
